| Cringletie stands in glorious hillside grounds just south of the city of Edinburgh. The house was built in 1861 in the Scottish Baronial castle style with impressive turrets and spectacular views over the surrounding countryside. Inside the hotel is warm and welcoming and very comfortable with original fireplaces, interesting wood paneling and a magnificent carved staircase. All the rooms are individually decorated and have sweeping views across the gardens and lawns. The 400-year old walled garden produces much of the fruit and fresh vegetables for the kitchen and local produce from the rivers and hillsides of the Borders area assures excellent dining in the restaurant. The region is rich in stately homes, spectacular gardens, and all the sporting activities that Scotland can offer, including fishing, hiking and whisky tasting. |
