Hotel Unico Madrid [formerly known as Hotel Selenza] is a beautiful 19th-century building located in the most cosmopolitan part of Madrid; Claudio Coello is the most fashionable boutique shopping street in Madrid. There are 44 smart, modern rooms with polished oak floors and large windows looking on to the quiet street or a garden patio. All the rooms have superb bathrooms, some with separate showers. The hotel opened in 2009 to fabulous press and a five-star rating, particularly as the hotel's restaurant is run by the famous two-Michelin star chef Ramón Freixa, and is named after him. The restaurant is one of Madrid's best and Ramón's fresh Mediterranean cuisine has taken international food lovers by storm. The restaurant is full every night and must be booked in advance. All the main museums are within an easy walk from the hotel. The staff is warm and welcoming and speak English well. The hotel was recently purchased, and the new owners have changed the name to Hotel Unico Madrid. They will be making some furniture and lighting changes in the bedrooms, and the restaurant remains the same and is run by two-Michelin star chef Ramón Freixa.
