Dorset Square Hotel is part of Firmdale’s collection of Townhouse Hotels and was one of the first boutique hotels in London. Tim and Kit Kemp bought Dorset Square Hotel in 1985 and with it launched their company, Firmdale Hotels. In 2011 they closed it down for a total refurbishment and update. The Kemps have always had a soft spot for Dorset Square as it was their first hotel. It is located close to the Wallace Collection, Selfridges and the restaurants and boutiques of Marylebone. Some rooms are small and more suitable for singles, but many are larger and have high ceilings with floor-to-ceiling windows. Kit has done a beautiful job with the space. There is a fun bar and a very good restaurant, The Potting Shed, which also attracts the locals. One of the unique experiences of staying at Dorset Square Hotel is the ‘key garden square’. These squares have beautiful gardens that are private to the townhouses that surround the square. Guests at the hotel can get a key at the front desk and enjoy their private garden just like a Londoner.
Firmdale Hotels won the Queen’s Award for Enterprise 2018 in recognition of their outstanding achievements in International Trade. This is the fourth time they have won, previously winning in 2000, 2006 and 2009.
